When To Plant:
Milkweed can be planted in the Spring or Fall. For successful germination “Cold Stratification” is required, this being one of the main reasons we have individually packed our Milkweed seeds contrary to many competing Monarch seed mixes.
Cold Stratification:
Milkweed seeds naturally go through a winter cycle which is required for successful germination. Planting these seeds in the fall ensures this process occurs naturally. For spring planting this process can be artificially created by placing seeds in a moist paper towel, sealing them inside a plastic bag, and then letting them sit for 4-6 weeks in your refrigerator.
Where To Plant:
Milkweed prefers a bright sunny location while the rest of your wildflower seed mix will be less picky and can thrive in most conditions, including partial shade. Soil type for each Milkweed seed packet will differ as well. Ideal conditions are listed below.
